You like Archaeologist Daniel! A classic.
You like Archaeologist Daniel!

How do you like your Daniel Jackson?
brought to you by Quizilla

Since I am easily amused, I like my Daniel Jackson Archaeologist Style. This is one thing I'd thought I'd never do, but it's a Stargate thing.

Been a week, Uni is great, wonderful, spifferific, etc. I'm in work-study right now, so I'm slacking off. Should really be studying or doing Bio work, but I'll do that tonight.

On the drive to campus today, I was listening to the radio, for whatever reason, the country station, Y108. "Riding with Private Malone," by David Ball, came on the radio. As I listened to the lyrics I ended up in tears. It was such a sad, but beautiful song. Just reading the lyrics brings me to tears still.

Riding with Private Malone
I was just out of the service thumbing through the classifieds
when an ad that said old chevy some how caught my eye
the lady didn't know the year or even if it ran
but I had that thousand dollars in my hand

It was way back in the corner of this old ramshackle barn
thirty years of dust and dirt on that green army tarp
when I pulled the cover off it took away my breath
what she'd called a Chevy was a sixty six corvette
I felt a little guilty as I counted out the bills
but what a thrill I got when I sat behind the wheel
I opened up the glove box and that's when I found the note
the date was nineteen sixty six and this is what he wrote

Chorus
He said my name is Private Andrew Malone
if you're reading this then I didn't make it home
but for every dream that's shattered another one comes true
this car was once a dream of mine now it belongs to you
and though you may take her and make her your own
you'll always be riding with Private Malone

Well it didn't take me long at all I had her running good
I love to hear those horses thunder underneath her hood
I had her shining like a diamond and I'd put the rag top down
all the pretty girls would stop and stare as I drove her through town
the buttons on the radio didn't seem to work quite right
but it picked up that oldie show especially late at night
I'd get the feeling sometimes if I turned real quick I'd see
a soldier riding shotgun in the seat right next to me

Chorus
It was a young man named Private Andrew Malone
who fought for his country and never made it home
but for every dream that's shattered another one comes true
this car was once a dream of his back when it was new
he told me to take her and make her my own
and I was proud to be riding with Private Malone

One night it was raining hard I took the curve too fast
I still don't remember much about that fiery crash
someone said they thought they saw a soldier pull me out
they didn't get his name but I know without a doubt

Chorus
It was a young man named Private Andrew Malone
who fought for his country and never made it home
but for every dream that's shattered another one comes true
this car was once a dream of his back when it was new
I know I wouldn't be here if he hadn't tagged along
That night I was riding with Private Malone
Oh thank God I was riding with Private Malone

...I'm going off to cry some more....

Haven't updated this for over two weeks... RenFest was a blast, yada yada, Uni starts tomorrow (nervousness), you get the idea... Am in the mood for a new layout, mainly to annoy Michael with the fact that I redesigned this also because of Tori Amos's cover of Tom Waits' "Time;" particularly the phrase "And the things you can't remember tell the things you can't forget."

Uh, yeah, I guess we have the world's first pregnant man at RYT Hospital. Artist Lee Mingwei is the first human male to become pregnant, visit RYT's POP! The First Human Male Pregnancy for more info. My impressions? It's definitely a huge shock, it used to be a joke, but I guess now anything's possible. I don't find it "morally reprehensible" or anything of the sort. As long as this guy loves his kid, that's the important thing, and thus fine with me.

My backpack is packed and ready to go for tomorrow. I missed buying two of my books, so there goes another $200. i've already spent over $320 on the ones I recently bought. This is down right depressing. I'll have to start saving for next terms books immediately and I want to start paying my own cell phone bill and the car insurance; don't know how that will work out with the fact that, I've had rotten luck finding anything resembling an actual job. We'll see how this progresses, but damn, I've gotta get out of this house.

I want to meet Eric so damn bad, really bad... maybe over one of the holidays, I'm hoping, really hoping... *Sigh*

RenFest Countdown: 9 Days!

I promised myself that I would leave this alone for at least 3 weeks and be good and not touch it. Obviously I was bad; that last layout lasted a whole of a week.

But I got a new toy. Heh. Adobe Photoshop 7.0, so I had to play with it. New layout, same theme. It's just version 2.1 ... This really pathetic; but on the other hand, no one can say I never change my layout. Reckon I'll should start up a page of previous incarnations of this blog.

I'm taking going to the local amusement park with my cousin, later today. After some sleep. I hope it doesn't rain. Would suck if it did.

Guess that's it.

RenFest Countdown: 12 Days

Went out shopping with Joanna today. Bought a few things for my RenFest costume, couple pieces of costume jewellery actually, decided on the beads for the hair (which I'll pick up later.) I still need a pair of pants to shred and mangle and make look well worn, which I can prolly find at Good Will.

Thought I was going to get to go to the Pittsburgh Computer Expo, got up early and midway through my shower, Dad informs me that it's next weekend not this one. Talk about being annoyed and having been woke for no reason.

In other news, the muse visited last night. She came packing the "City Lights;" recounting one of my favorite memories from my trip to Erie to meet Michael (Archangel). Two in the morning, coming around Rt. 279 onto Rt. 376; seeing the city of Pittsburgh lit up for the first time in my life. It added an extra hour of drive time, but it was well worth it just to see the lights.

City Lights
Two A.M. on the drive home from Erie,
Curving around on the 376 overpass,
Jessie’s asleep in the seat beside me;
Nothing except the sound of the road
And Ani singing “Loom” on my radio.

Twenty miles per hour in a forty-five,
Windows rolled down, sixty-seven degrees,
The cool summer wind kissing my cheek,
Drinking in the sights; ain’t a soul on the road.

On this starless morning, the thirtieth of June,
Among monuments of steel, stone, and glass;
It’s just the night, the city lights, and me.
